Develop the ability to analyse problems in computational terms through practical experience of solving such problems including writing programs to do so

Units Studied:
Computer Systems. Characteristics of contemporary processors. Software and development. Exchanging Data. Data types structures and algorithms. Legal, moral and ethical issues.
Algorithms and Programming. Elements of computational thinking. Problem solving and programming. Algorithms to solve problems and standard algorithms.
Programming Project. Analysis of the problem. Design of the solution. Developing the solution. Evaluation.
Assessment:
Examination and coursework
College Entry Requirements:
Minimum of 5 good grades at GCSE, including English and maths at a strong pass. Some experience of programming is desirable.
Subject Specific Requirements:
Whilst it is not essential to have studied Computer Science at GCSE, this is desirable. If Computer Science was not studied, speaking to our staff about what individual programming preparation can be done would be advisable. A grade 5 in Maths and English is required.

Computing/ICT skills are required an increasing number of careers in all areas of business and industry. Specific areas include Systems Analysis, Programming, Database management and Management Information Systems
